Southern University Just Received $163,000 in Unclaimed Property — Could You Be Next?

The Southern University System has received $163,943.14 after the Louisiana Treasury identified unclaimed property owed to the institution.

Louisiana Treasurer John Fleming personally delivered the check to university officials, highlighting how unclaimed property can impact not only individuals, but public institutions as well.

 

How the Funds Will Be Shared

The recovered funds will be distributed across all Southern University System campuses and programs, including:

University officials said the funds will support system-wide operations and educational efforts.

 

Treasurer Urges Residents to Check Their Names

Treasurer Fleming used the announcement to remind Louisiana residents, businesses, and nonprofits to search for unclaimed property in their own names.

Unclaimed property can include forgotten bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance refunds, or other financial assets turned over to the state after inactivity.
